Combining a café and record store, Purple Llama is one of the more personal projects among Lux Populi’s enduring collaboration with Wheeler Kearns Architects. Using extremely high, crisp white light levels at the food and coffee service counters brings vibrancy to food and the act of making coffee. Meanwhile, purple neon logos play with white neon signage to create color contrast and a strong visual identity.

Clarity of design thinking combined with a relaxed attitude towards light sources organizes light in distinctive distributions.

From outside the store, one looks in and sees the Purple Llama herself, expressed in neon.

Photometric analysis allowed precise distribution of light for food services and delivered contrast levels that are unaccustomed in a bright café environment.

Quirky but coherent – graphical neon and sober technical lighting contrast to create a visual identity.
