Extending the productive day into the evening is key to human-focused lighting values. Massive but energy efficient uplighting of the ceiling maintains the circadian day into the mid-evening, ensuring high alertness of students. Careful balance of color temperatures ensures that qualities of light and a sense of comfort are maintained even though the space is stretching one’s day.

Meeting aggressive LEED requirements, the lighting scheme nevertheless matches university requirements for technologies – a four-way pull along with ensuring active education and a positive aesthetic environment.

Human centered lighting does not require sophisticated manipulation of color temperatures or controls – sometimes just empathy for how one lives a space and one’s life the rest of the week can suffice.

Formal study spaces can nevertheless be comfortable, welcoming and engaging – matching the needs of their students.
