city bank union square

Architect
Eight Inc
Location
New York City

Built to exacting standards, this new “anchor branch” location was designed by Eight Inc to achieve new levels of integration and refinement to the banking space. With a target of LEED Gold, later raised to LEED Platinum through the integrated work of the team, balancing energy usage, materials considerations and construction sequencing was essential. Originally targeting 20% under ASRHAE90.1 energy usage levels, Lux Populi ultimately achieved a 30% improvement, through sophisticated “editing” of the use of light. Light levels orientate clients and visitors on a subconscious level, inviting them to the key locations and providing either a sense of movement in dynamic spaces, or a place to pause where presented with information or where relationships are built. Substantially depressed light levels are used throughout open floor areas where no task is required, allowing boosted levels in locations where precision tasks, security or focus demand.

Many small elements build in such a project to create a successful outcome. In this case, simple maintenance tasks, so often undermined by simple errors are managed through creation of a single order sheet and ensuring that any lamp that is ordered fits only in the correct fixture – color temperatures, brightnesses and colors of light are never able to be confused.
