Breeze Blocks

Architect

Location

A home for an architect and her family, this creation by Kovac Design Studio played with the traditional markers of mid century modernism while gently subverting the style. A signature screening wall provides privacy from the street, in the form of stacked breeze blocks, internally gilded and lit for a remarkable gentle golden glow.

Throughout the house, a “Lighting Design 101” solution of well organized artwork and area lighting gives simple, effective light and steps back from the moments of drama – a pool ringed in floating light, a Brazilian mural glowing as a backdrop the entrance.

Calm and simple, this scheme makes a beautiful home for the family.

Signature elements can define a home and light can support them. In this case, the gilded breeze blocks both soften and enrich the experience.

Collaboration was essential for this home, with the architecture, construction and electrical team moving as one.

Quiet and elegant, light is a support not a dominant element in this beautiful home.
