Lux Populi had never taken on a traditional Americana restaurant design, so when approached for Smoke Signals, we considered it an interesting challenge to implement such a design both with excellent performance and a sense of humor.  The restaurant consists of a long space joining a west-facing street frontage with an east facing lake view to the spectacular Mirror Lake of Lake Placid.  Creating many challenges for glare and contrast, day and night schemes are dramatically different in their dimming approach, but feel coherent.  The design tonality is one of sexy warmth coupled with familiar lounge tones, and the space enriched by accenting of dramatic black and white photography on the walls.

Outside the glass facade to the lake, area lighting is achieved with a double-function, and falling snow in winter drifts through shafts of light, dancing and playing outside the windows.  Upstairs in the event bar, swages of cable originating from a single canopy suspend pendants throughout the space.
